Basics
Q.What is the VRL.KR URL shortener?
VRL.KR turns long URLs into short, memorable links.
Short links look like 'vrl.kr/code' and redirect to the original URL when opened.
Key features: URL shortening, QR codes, click analytics, custom aliases (members), link preview, and free web tools.
Q.How do I shorten a URL?
1. Open the VRL.KR home page.
2. Paste the URL you want to shorten.
3. Press 'Shorten'.
No account is required. If you sign in, you can manage your links and view statistics.
Q.Is VRL.KR free?
Yes. Shortening, QR codes, click analytics, and the API are all free. There are no payments or paid plans.
Q.Do short links expire?
By default links never expire.
Signed-in members can set an expiry date or a maximum number of clicks when creating a link.
Links that violate the Terms of Service (malware, phishing, spam, etc.) may be blocked without notice.
Features
Q.How do I create a QR code?
After shortening a URL, open the 'QR code' tab on the result card.
You can download it as a high-resolution PNG or a vector SVG. Scanning it opens the short link.
Q.Can I choose my own keyword (custom alias)?
Yes. Signed-in members can enter an alias when shortening a URL (e.g. vrl.kr/my-link).
Aliases are 3–30 characters: letters, digits, hyphens (-) and underscores (_). Reserved words and aliases already in use are not available.
Q.What does click analytics include?
For links created by members, the dashboard shows total clicks, daily trends, countries, devices (mobile/desktop/tablet), browsers, and referrers.
Visitor IP addresses are never stored; only a hash is kept to count unique visitors.
Q.Can I check the destination before visiting?
Yes. Open 'vrl.kr/preview/code' to see the destination, creation date, and click count first. Previews are not counted as clicks.
API & developers
Q.Can I shorten URLs through an API?
Yes. A RESTful API is available at https://api.vrl.kr/v1.
Sign in and issue an API key on the developer page. See the 'API guide' in Support and the documentation on the developer page for details.
Security & privacy
Q.Are short links safe?
VRL.KR only shortens http/https URLs and rejects self-references, private IP addresses, and blocked domains.
Every link can be previewed before visiting, and reported links are reviewed and blocked when necessary.
The service is served over HTTPS only.
Q.How do I report a harmful URL?
Use 'Report a harmful URL' at the bottom of the home page: enter the short URL, choose a reason, and submit.
We review reports and block links when needed. If you leave an email address, we will let you know the outcome.
